How did Farragut State Park become a Naval Base?

Eleanor Roosevelt noticed Lake Pend Oreille on a flight to Seattle. Knowing that her husband, President Roosevelt was looking for a secure inland naval training center, she mentioned it to him. The president made a secret tour of the area and they broke ground in March of 1942.
